Trauma does not always announce itself clearly.

Even though it can leave persistent imprints, for many, it shows up in the tiniest of actions. A sense of unease in certain rooms, difficulty trusting people who mean well, or a guardedness that others often misread as being closed off or difficult to reach.

Therapy offers a compassionate space to explore what has been quietly running underneath.

Support You Can Count On

Trauma is not defined by the size of an event, but by the impact it leaves and how it shapes you as a person.

At Here and Now Therapy, we support with:

Childhood Trauma

Difficult or unsafe experiences in early life, whether emotional, physical, or relational, shapes attachment patterns, self-worth, and trust-building.

PTSD

Post-traumatic stress can follow a single significant event or a prolonged period of harm. It may need more kinds of support including EMDR, but talk therapy can help you get started.

Generational Trauma

Trauma that originates in one generation moves through families. This kind of trauma changes epigenetics and affects how you respond to stress, communicate, and feel safety.

General Trauma

Not all trauma fits neatly into a category. Loss, accidents, medical experiences, or prolonged periods of stress and instability can leave a lasting impact that is just as real and deserving of support.

If any of these feel familiar:

  • Feeling on edge without a clear reason

  • Intrusive memories, flashbacks, and distressing dreams occur consistently

  • Feeling disconnected from yourself or daily life

  • Chronic tension, fatigue, or physical heaviness

  • Difficulty trusting others, even those who are safe

  • Feeling unsettled even when life appears to be going well

  • Tendency to avoid certain places, people, or conversations

  • A quiet but persistent feeling that something is wrong with you

Healing does not always mean forgetting. Sometimes it means learning to carry things differently.

Our therapists use a blend of modalities including Somatic Therapy, ACT, ,and CBT which means we tailor tools and strategies to your needs, goals, and patterns, rather than using one fixed approach.

Questions About
Trauma Therapy

  • It can surface difficult memories, and that is expected. A trauma-informed therapist will introduce you to concepts like your nervous system's response to stress, chemical and physical reactions during a distressing event, and in turn your body's response. This will bring some perspective to the process, and may make you feel at ease before starting to talk about trauma. Frequent check-ins throughout sessions are essential.

  • Yes. Here and Now Therapy provides official receipts for all virtual and in-person therapy sessions, which you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. We currently serve clients across Ontario only.

  • First sessions are primarily about your therapist getting to know you, your history, and immediate concerns you’d like to work on. You may leave feeling a mix of relief and heavy emotions, and that’s completely normal. A good therapist will look for unspoken cues and pace the session accordingly.

  • ADHD and trauma share many symptoms. Trouble focusing, feeling restless, reacting strongly to situations, or struggling to stay present are common to both. What makes it more complex is that early trauma can actually shape how the brain develops, which means the two are sometimes connected rather than separate.

If you suspect you might have ADHD, a proper assessment is the best way to find out.

  • Yes, entirely. Therapy is not a space where anything is forced or extracted. Your therapist will follow your lead, and you are always in control of what you share and when. Trust and safety are built gradually, and you may naturally want to expand on details.

If you suspect you might have ADHD, a proper assessment is the best way to find out.

  • Trauma work takes time, and there is no fixed timeline because everyone responds differently. Many clients begin with weekly sessions, sometimes twice a week during more intensive periods, before gradually moving to biweekly appointments as progress builds.

If you suspect you might have ADHD, a proper assessment is the best way to find out.

  • Our therapists draw from several modalities, some include:

    • Internal Family Systems (IFS) explores the different parts of you that developed in response to pain and intense emotions.

    • Somatic Experiencing works with the nervous system directly and helps your body release stored stress and tension.

    • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps you relate differently to painful thoughts and memories and lower the power they hold over everyday life.

    • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) identifies and shifts the thought patterns and behaviours that trauma has reinforced over time.
